Know your Good Fortune with Mavis Staples

LISTEN TO SONG

ATMOSPHERE: You’re in the deep south, hunting in the forest. You hope no one gets in the way of you and your animal prey. Your catch will feed your family for a week, so you pray for two. It starts to rain and you feel a little disheartened, but you carry on. The sky gets darker, as you get a little less hopeful that you will find anything. You start to shiver because your are soaked to the bone, you are finding it harder to walk through the mud squishing beneath your boots. The rain gets heavier. All of a sudden you don’t recognise where you are. You are lost in the forest, in the rain, freezing cold and you have no way home. You look up and pray for a miracle.

Getting Dirty with Naked Bodies

LISTEN TO TRACK

ATMOSPHERE: You wake up and you’re on your couch. What’s that stuck to my face? A piece of ham. Who’s leg is this over mine? Ew, it’s Jono’s! You try and wake him, but he’s out cold, sleeping off the night before. Who are all these people in my living room? There’s about 10 people lying around, in random places, with random things on their head. You rub your eyes and shake yourself awake. Shit! There’s bottles everywhere. Shit! Where’s the TV? Shit! Where are my pants? Shit, what the hell is that massive bloodstain on the carpet? You stand up and yell at the top of your lungs…

“Dirty Plate Blues” is from upcoming debut album ‘Piranha’ released 3 April 2015.

If a mixture of garage, blues and rock sounds like something you want in your ears, you’ll definitely find love in this Melbourne outfit – Naked Bodies. The gritty blues-y guitars and Quang Dinh’s (ex-Little Red) baritone static vocals fuses together effortlessly, one that blues purists and rock snobs could agree with. From the twangy riffs to sick riffs to the relatable youth-lifestyle lyrics, “Dirty Plate Blues” delivers in more ways than one.
